Revealed: Madonna's Campaign for Louis Vuitton

After months of speculation, scheduling and test shoots, the first Spring 2009 Louis Vuitton ads have been revealed, starring none other than Madonna.

Rumors hit in early November that the Material Mom, 50, would potentially front the line. Informed speculation said that head Vuitton designer Marc Jacobs pegged Madge as his first choice, and that she would be shot by photog team Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

Mert and Marcus are a Turk and a Welshman whose career, launched by influential British magazine Dazed and Confused, has had them pointing a camera at a constellation of stars from Madonna and Lindsay Lohan to Charlotte Rampling.

However, in a Thursday interview with Women's Wear Daily, Jacobs revealed that the campaign instead was shot by Steven Meisel, reuniting the fashion-lens legend with Madonna after their famous collaboration on her 1992 book Sex.

The images, shot in a French bistro in Los Angeles, show a smoking hot Madonna rocking the much-talked about furry cocktail dress in a mango shade, with various Vuitton bags in classic canvas and distressed burlap.

Jacobs revealed to WWD that the idea to use the singer came when he "just blurted out, ‘I think we should do Madonna.'"

The 45-year-old design king said he'd attended a stop on her Sticky & Sweet tour and "was totally just blown away by it, and moved by her performance, by what she had to say, and her energy.”

And as for her rumored $10 million price tag?

Vuitton Communications Director Antoine Arnault says, "It was very far away from that."

Whatever her sticker price, money well spent.

Not sure on the artistic direction for this shoot, but if you're an old, pale, transsexual, looking to get banged out in a seedy bar while wearing a skinned Muppet as a skirt ... well, then you'll love Marc Jacobs.
