Robert Downey Jr. Credits Burger King for Rehab

on Jun. 10, 2008 08:01 AM / 6 Comments

Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. says he finally kicked drugs with the help of a horrible meal at Burger King, the New York Daily News reports. If that's the case, three-quarters of Americans should never ever have a problem with cocaine, heroin or glue-sniffing.

In an interview with the British mag Empire, Downey says he was driving down L.A.'s Pacific Coast Highway one day in 2003 with his car filled to the brim with "tons of f--king dope," when he decided to pull over and have it his way.

"I have to thank Burger King," he says. "It was such a disgusting burger I ordered. I had that, and this big soda, and I thought something really bad was going to happen."

Whether Downey's a-ha moment is the result of some sort of psychic flash of an upcoming drug bust or because he would never have eaten revolting food if he wasn't on dope is unclear. But he left the establishment, pulled his car over and threw his supply of illegal drugs into the ocean, determined to get clean from that day forth.

Downey says the scene in which Tony Stark is released from captivity and the first thing he does is request a cheeseburger, is a tip of the hat to the actor's fateful day.

This is America, and you know somehow, somewhere, there is a marketing exec wondering how they can spin this "disgusting burger" tale into Burger King gold.

Pepper Potts must have picked out the orange tie. Either that, or he has no color-coordination skills whatsoever.

Oddly enough, fast food MADE me an addict. I guess I should have suspected something was wrong when I saw the big sign in front that sais, "Crack-In-the-Box."
