Ryan Reynolds Is a Marathon Man

Nov 3, 2008 at 9:29am

People reports that Ryan Reynolds, he of the almost obnoxiously perfect abs and husband to Scarlett Johansson, ran the ING NYC Marathon on Sunday.

“I’m still standing. I’m very excited about that,” he told the press after finishing in three hours and 50 minutes (faster than he had anticipated). “It was an incredible experience.”

And all of that effort and grueling struggle wasn’t just for personal achievement. Reynolds ran as a promise to Michael J. Fox, who suffers from Parkinson’s Disease.

“When I saw Michael J. Fox on Fifth Avenue, I gained about 15 pounds in goose bumps,” said Reynolds. “It kind of pushed me through the last six miles or so.”

Reynolds ran for Team Fox in honor of his father, who also has the disease.

“[During the race] I thought a lot about my father and Michael and the 500,000 other people afflicted with this awful disease in the United States alone. I ran for those who can’t,” Reynolds said.

And yes, his wife cheered him on from “on the road somewhere.” She should have hung out with Michael J. so Ryan could pinpoint her location.
