When your Dad is two weeks away from being inaugurated President of the United States, there should be some privileges, right? Not for 10-year-old Malia Obama and her 7-year-old sister Sasha Obama. The daughters of President-elect Barack Obama and his wife Michelle headed off to class this morning for the first full school week of 2009, just like any normal kid.
The Obama family is in the midst of moving from their hometown of Chicago to their new residence in Washington, D.C. Obama's girls will both be attending the private Sidwell Friends School, a Quaker academy where Chelsea Clinton was a student when her dad was in the White House.
Malia will be studying on the fifth-grade level at Sidwell's middle-school campus (where tuition is believed to be $29,442). Second grader Sasha will be attacking her "three R's" at Sidwell's elementary school (where tuition is $28,442).
Chances are the girls won't have any trouble making new friends. There's probably not a child at Sidwell who isn't under parental pressure to buddy up with the hottest President in history's kids. And then there are always the ever-present Secret Service men, just in case Malia or Sasha somehow get lonely.
