While James Franco is gearing up to play beat poet Allen Ginsberg in the upcoming biopic Howl, he's also busy promoting his latest movie, Milk.
Page Six quotes Franco, 30, talking about his sex scenes with Sean Penn, 48, in the true story of San Francisco's late city supervisor Harvey Milk, the first openly gay American to hold public office.
"In the original script I read, there was only one real kissing scene," Franco tells the January issue of Elle. "A month after [director] Gus [Van Sant] asked me to do it, they sent me another script, and on Page 5 there was a full-on love scene. And I was like, 'Gus, what the heck?' He says, 'Well, it was Sean's idea.'"
Franco plays Scott Smith, Harvey Milk's much younger lover, in the film.
Milk opened last week in limited engagement. It raked in whopping $1.8 million on just 36 screens.
The film gets s wider release across the country this Friday.
