Sean Penn is drowning himself in work after news of his pending divorce with his wife, Robin Penn Wright.
Variety is reporting that Penn is in talks to star in This Must Be The Place, where he'll play a retired, middle-aged rock star. The film will be the English-language feature debut of Italian filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino.
Penn's character eventually becomes bored in his retirement and decides to go on a journey to find his dad's executioner, a former Nazi war criminal who is a refugee in the United States.
Sources claim that Penn and Sorrentino are in discussion about the movie's financing. Penn is currently tied down to a few movies, including The Three Stooges, in which he'll star alongside Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro, the Universal/Imagine drama Cartel, and a film called Fair Game.
Do you see think Penn can pull of the rock-star persona in his new film? Let us know in the comments!

I hope the opening scene features him shooting heroin directly into his urethra. That's the way REAL retired rock stars would do it.
Sean Penn play a rock star? Sounds like a natural to me. He's already got a major coke problem, can't keep his pants zipped, has attitude, usually bad, to spare and needs a reality check. Isn't that the very definition of a rock star?
