Selena Gomez Speaks Up for UNICEF

Superstar Disney role model Selena Gomez (some call her the anti-Miley Cyrus) has been selected as the spokesperson for 2008′s Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign.

UNICEF stands for “The United Nations Children’s Fund.”

Their Trick-or-Treat campaign encourages kids to divert some of their Halloween loot to starving kids in less-fortunate zip codes.

“I want to help encourage other kids to make a difference in the world and show them that Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF is such a great, fun way to get involved,” says Selena to the Wall Street Journal‘s Market Watch.

The Trick-or-Treat promotion has socked away more than $140 million for hungry kids.

That’s almost as much as Billy Ray Cyrus shelled out for his daughter’s Disneyland Sweet 16, but not quite enough to cover her credit cards.
