Sharon Gets Metaphorically Stoned

Sharon Stone has a problem. It started with a red-carpet interview at Cannes, in which she shared her thoughts on the recent devastating earthquake in China. Quoth Sharon to Hong Kong's Cable Entertainment News:

"I've been concerned about how we should deal with the Olympics, because they are not being nice to the Dalai Lama, who is a good friend of mine. And then this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and I thought, Is that karma—when you're not nice, bad things happen to you?"

And then the plot thickened. After opining mightily, "bad things" started happening to the batty brain-aneurysm survivor, who is now facing a ban from a major Chinese film distributor of her films and who has been dropped from Christian Dior's Chinese ad campaign. As a result, Sharon promptly released an apology:

"Due to my inappropriate words and acts during the interview, I feel deeply sorry and sad about hurting Chinese people...I am willing to take part in the relief work of China's earthquake and wholly devote myself to helping affected Chinese people."

The country has warily accepted Stone's apology, with the Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang telling the Associated Press, "We hope that as an actress she should contribute to our two peoples' mutual trust, understanding and friendship."

So, using that logic, is it a fair assessment that Sharon is implying Iceland is now paying dearly for unleashing Björk on the rest of the world?

UPDATE:  And the fallout continues. Stone has been uninvited from the Shanghai International Film Festival, which kicks off June 14—and both she and her films are forever banned from inclusion, a source tells the Hollywood Reporter. Ouch! That'll teach ya to think before you speak.
