Should Suri Cruise Be Off The Bottle?
Suri Cruise seems to be growing up fast these days, sporting her designer clothes and high heels all around town!
However, on Wednesday, mommy/BFF Katie Holmes was spotted bottle-feeding Suri on the New York set of her new movie, The Romantics. So what gives? Should a 3-year-old still be drinking from a bottle?
Dr. Jennifer Shu, a pediatrician and co-author of Food Fights, tells Usmagazine.com that Suri definitely should NOT be hitting the bottle at her age.
“She should have been weaned off the bottle by the time she was nine months old. By the time kids are nine months old, they have the physical development and mouth coordination necessary to be able to drink out of a sippy cup or a cup with straw. That development comes pretty early.”
However, another expert on the subject, pediatriacian Dr. Harvey Karp, doesn’t think it’s that big of a deal.
“Sucking is normal for kids when they are tired or bored — as long as kids aren’t keeping the bottle in their mouths for hours. Thumb-sucking is more damaging.”

Some day someone is going to have to teach that child the word “NO”. They let that kid do whatever she wants.
She should be off the bottle and back on breast milk.
Firstly, Yes she should be of the bottle, but come on people remember who her parents are. The poor little girl has such a whirlwind life with her parents hectic schedules and if she finds comfort in a bottle who are we to complain. Remember she is only 3 and I know that if I’d been through half of what she has I would have needed more than a bottle to comfort me. So please give her a break theres alot more f….d up things in the world we could point fingers at and let the kid be a kid for as long as she can and maybe she won’t become another screwed up hollywood statistic.

my question to these doctors is this: what is the physical harm that would be caused by a 3 year old using a bottle. it is not the same sucking reflex used by an adult with a straw. and outside of a tooth extraction no one has should that to be harmful.

Firstly I don’t like being called a loser if that comment included me. If you had read my comment properly I fully understand how having a bottle would be a very calming and comforting time for Suri and I fully supported it. Lastly just a note, I do have children and I do have a medical background and I am sorry my comments were misinterpreted.

The only thing I think is really strange about the bottle situation is the fact that one day Suri is swaddled in a blanket in her mothers arms drinking from a baby bottle. Then the next day she is walking the streets in gold heels, frilly dress, lipgloss, and nailpolish!
That is strange!
This 3 year old wears heels with her expensive clothes and sucks a bottle with her mom feeding her. Personally, I think it is disgusting. Who cares what any doctor says, it is disgusting.

She is their child, let them decide. Her parents know her needs better than any of us. She appears to be well taken care of. Why pick on the small stuff. I think she is darling with her bottle and her heals!

How do you know this? Are you in thier day to day lives? More than likely not, so you DONT know. You can hardly give an opinion if your not in thier lives.
A bottle never hurt anyone. No different than sucking on a straw, candy or other things. I doubt she drinks from the bottle always. Maybe it helps calm and relax her. Who are you to judge? Because her parents are wealthy, of course, she will have the nicer things in life. It is all relative. Get a grip and move on with your own lives and don’t worry about Suri. She will be just fine.
One other thing, don’t any of you ever need comforting?? How do you like to be comforted. She is 3 years old for God’s sake. If swadling and a bottle comfort her, so be it. I guess we should consider Katie a great mom if she is aware enough to realize her child’s needs. Ever think about that?

Externally, Suri looks like she is a normal, healthy child. Who knows internally and developmentally what medical issues she may have that warrents her drinking from a bottle. The bottom line is, it is really no one’s business if she drinks from a bottle occasionally or how ever often. One picture is not necessarily one thousand words. Kids regress for a variety of reasons. Maybe little Suri was sick and needed to drink liquids only and her obviously busy mother could only get her to drink from the bottle or sippee cup or whatever. One never knows. Just food for thought.
Hope the parents are checking her teeth for Early Childhood Caries. Decay of the baby teeth can be caused by the improper use of the bottle. She should be off the bottle, at least by the age of one. Hope they are not putting her to bed with the bottle, not letting her walk around with the bottle or sipping from it all day, putting sugary liquids (soda, juice, etc.) in the bottle and are brushing her teeth every morning and especially at night for her. Decay of the baby teeth can spread rapidly and can lead to serious and expensive dental care.
It is harmless. Some kids stay on the bottle or even pacifier till they are four. Some kids are still in diapers at age four. Whats more concerning is dressing up a three year old in high heels and make up!
Why is this news?
It doesn’t affect me one way or the other. Tom and Katie can keep that kid on a bottle til she’s 10 for all I care. It must be a slow news day!!

The best ting about being a parent is that you can parent your child HOWEVER you choose and go by your own schedule and not what “society” thinks is acceptable or not. I’m still breastfeeding my 3 year old and I think it’s perfectly acceptable to see Suri Cruise still sucking on a bottle. She’s been seen in public with sippy cups too…so why all the harsh comments? Let the kid be a kid… her parents are doing the best they can. I support them!!
