Heather Locklear might have shady girlfriends and evil-doing bystanders around her, but at least a former flame has been checking in with good intentions.

Comedian and rumored paramour David Spade told People magazine he's been messaging the actress, who was recently busted near Santa Barbara, California, for driving under the influence after a stint in an Arizona treatment facility.

"I texted her to check on her," Spade told the mag recently. Spade and Locklear enjoyed several months of quality time in mid-2006.

"I think things get blown out a lot of proportion," Spade says. "She's always solid and always a great person. And I think people understand she's in a tough situation and she does her best." 

Locklear, who allegedly sought treatment after her DUI incident, surfaced just yesterday at Anaheim's Disneyland for Miley Cyrus' Sweet 16 party.
