The Sweet Sounds of Leighton Meester

Earlier this week Celebuzz showed you the music video for the first single from High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale.

Now, OK! Magazine has announced that Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester has just scored herself a record deal with Universal Republic Records. Leighton sparked the interest of record labels when her song "Birthday" leaked onto the Internet on April 7.

Leighton says, "I'm thrilled to be welcomed into the Universal Republic fold. Their reputation for nurturing artists combined with a willingness to break new ground makes it the ultimate environment for me to enjoy making music and explore my own creative boundaries. I look forward to a great working relationship."

Leighton's as-of-yet untitled album is due out sometime in the spring. The actress has also just signed to star in a new movie called The Roomate, opposite Twilight villain and new daddy Cam Gigandet.
