The U.S. men's relay team consisting of Michael Phelps, Garrett Weber-Gale, Cullen Jones and Jason Lezak won an emotional victory in the 4x100 freestyle relay by narrowly beating out France. The event, in which five teams broke the previous world record, brought Phelps his second gold medal of the Beijing Olympic games. The dashing swimmer won his first in the 400 meter individual medley.

In all, Michael will be competing in eight events in China. He's looking to break the record for most gold medals won at a single Olympics, set by 1972 Olympian Mark Spitz. Spitz won his seven golds in Munich, all for swimming as well.

Phelps is preparing to compete in the 200 meter freestyle on Tuesday. The 23-year-old American has already shattered all previous records for hotness in the post-Speedo era.

“Yesterday Michael Phelps won the first of probably eight gold medals to come at the 2008 Bejing Olympics. I say that like I'm joking, but those are actually the statistics. Because of the eight medals dude won in the '04 Olympics, only six of them were gold, and Mr. Phelps means business this time.

After killing it in yesterday's 400 meter medley, which he won after setting an Olympic record in the prelims, Mike set a world record in the 4x100 meter relay today and got a gold medal for that too.
