The U.S. men’s relay team consisting of Michael Phelps, Garrett Weber-Gale, Cullen Jones and Jason Lezak won an emotional victory in the 4×100 freestyle relay by narrowly beating out France. The event, in which five teams broke the previous world record, brought Phelps his second gold medal of the Beijing Olympic games. The dashing swimmer won his first in the 400 meter individual medley.

In all, Michael will be competing in eight events in China. He’s looking to break the record for most gold medals won at a single Olympics, set by 1972 Olympian Mark Spitz. Spitz won his seven golds in Munich, all for swimming as well.

Phelps is preparing to compete in the 200 meter freestyle on Tuesday. The 23-year-old American has already shattered all previous records for hotness in the post-Speedo era.
