A large dose of gratitude goes out to breast cancer survivor Christina Applegate. The actress will undergo reconstructive surgery at the end of this month, around her birthday.

The Samantha Who star, who turned 37 on November 25, had a double mastectomy in July after she was diagnosed with cancer.

But she refuses to become depressed about her health situation. She’s remained upbeat and has used her experience and brush with the disease to heighten cancer awareness.

She told TV Guide magazine, “I still have quite a process until this is done. Yes, it’s hard. It sucks. But I’m not a victim.”
