Thousands Line Up to Work with George Clooney

on Jan. 27, 2009 08:30 AM / 2 Comments

President Obama might want to enlist the services of George Clooney for his cabinet!

MSNBC reports that 2,100 people will be hired—albeit as short-term extras, where they'll earn roughly $56.40 a day—for Clooney's latest film, Up in the Air.

And apparently, a lot of Americans need the work; more than 14,000 people showed up at a St. Louis, Missouri, shopping mall looking to get cast as walk-ons.

Clooney, 47, stars in the the film as Ryan Bingham, an efficiency expert who looks to accomplish his two main goals in life: to accumulate one million frequent flier miles, and to land a job at a mysterious management company called MythTech.

Up in the Air is being directed by 31-year-old Jason Reitman, who previously helmed the 2007 indie smash Juno.

George recently finished work on the comedy Men Who Stare at Goats, which is due out in December 2009.

Meanwhile, Clooney was said to be taping scenes last week for the final episode of ER, wherein he'll reprise his role as Dr. Doug Ross.

The hit NBC medical drama is ending its run this spring after 15 years on the air.

Do you plan on tuning in to ER's last episode? Or would you rather be an extra for Up in the Air?
