Tom Brady and Matt Damon Targeted by Massachusetts Police

Tom Brady and Matt Damon better be careful. The police are watching them. Like, really watching them.

The Boston Globe reports that cops throughout Massachusetts have been doing seemingly excessive information searches on “high-profile” citizens, including Brady and Damon, through the state’s Criminal Offender Record Information system.

An audit released on Wednesday that law-enforcement personnel had done 968 searches on New England Patriots quarterback Brady alone—looking for information on everything from his home address and driver’s license photo to whether he had purchased a gun.

Auditors also discovered “repeated searches and queries” on dozens of other Massachusetts-related celebrities, including Damon, singer James Taylor, Boston Celtics player Paul Pierce and Red Sox owner John Henry

According to state Auditor A. Joseph DeNucci, who commissioned the year-long audit, the study reveals a system that’s repeatedly used by employees for searches “without any apparent work-related justification.”

Such  use, the audit notes, could constitute fraud, and “disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal and/or criminal prosecution.”

Seems a little crazy to subject Brady—who appears to be squeaky-clean to the point of snooze-inducing—to that kind of scrutiny. About the only suspicious thing he’s ever done is land a criminally hot wife.
