Tom Cruise and Denzel Washington Are Getting Some Action
Tom Cruise and Denzel Washington will be spending a lot of time together soon.
Contact Music reports that Cruise, 46, and Washington, 54, have signed on to co-star in the big-screen adaptation of Robert Ludlum's 1975 novel The Matarese Circle, about two rival spies who join forces to take on the evil Matarese organization.
Ludlum—who wrote the books that the Matt Damon-starring Bourne film trilogy was based on—was inspired to write the conspiratorial plot by rumors about the Trilateral Commission.
The new flick will be released by MGM, with David Cronenberg (A History of Violence) directing.
The studio brass are already anticipating big things for the project; they've optioned Ludlum's follow-up book, The Matarese Countdown, for a sequel, with an eye toward creating a franchise for Cruise and Washington.
