‘Tropic Thunder’ Makes Retard Blunder

Aug 12, 2008 at 7:00am

The line between humor and hurtful speech can be a thin one. Some advocacy groups, according to E!, believe that the new comedy from director/performer Ben Stiller obliterates that line.

Spokespersons from the Special Olympics and the American Association of Disabled Persons have protested the use of the term retard in Tropic Thunder. The movie, a farce about filming a Vietnam action flick, is set to be released on Wednesday, August 13. Studio execs have refused to change any of the film’s protested language.

Look for picket lines with a lot of misspelled signs.
