As a teenager, I admired Abraham Lincoln, our 16th president. Few individuals in history have as broadly exemplified such qualities as did Abraham Lincoln. Despite hailing from humble origins, he rised to the highest office in the land. He successfully put an end to slavery; his continuous efforts in spite of initial failures inspired me. He believed that our country’s founding promise of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” are natural rights equally applicable to ALL people. Lincoln’s acts of kindness and empathy for his fellow countrymen are not only the hallmark of every great leader, but also great lessons for all of us. Lincoln's life continues to bring hope and inspiration to millions in America and around the world.
