Val Kilmer: King of the Krewes

Val Kilmer is a big deal at this year’s Mardi Gras. And not just because of the 49-year-old actor’s increasing girth.

Kilmer was chosen as this year’s King of the Krewe of Bacchus, a title whose duties apparently include dressing up like a cross between Henry VIII and the Pope and riding atop a float during the annual King of the Krewes parade. (It also seemingly entitles one to wear a delightful air of manties; use our photo-zoom feature to check them out.)

Hey, the man currently provides the voice of K.I.T.T. on the new Knight Rider series; who else did you think they’d choose?

If Kilmer has his way, this won’t be the last position of leadership he holds. The actor revealed last year that he’s considering a run for the governorship of New Mexico.

But really, wouldn’t that kind of small-town gig be a disappointment after achieving these lofty heights?
