The Palm Springs International Film Festival 2009 kicked off last night with a bang, honoring a cavalcade of show biz’s most accomplished celebrities at its Awards Gala.

The black-tie ceremony, which was held at the Palm Springs Convention Center and hosted by Entertainment Tonight‘s Mary Hart, feted performers ranging from the very old to the very young; 78-year-old Changeling director Clint Eastwood snagged the Career Achievement Award and Hounddog actress Dakota Fanning, 14, picked up the Rising Star Award.

Other honorees included Freida Pinto, who nabbed a Breakthrough Award for her work in Slumdog Millionaire, and Sean Penn and Anne Hathaway, who both garnered Desert Palm Achievement Awards. The entire cast of family drama Revolutionary Road, including Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, were given the Ensemble Performance Award.
