Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj’s feud didn’t help bring in viewers for Season 12. Wednesday night’s ratings presented good and bad news for FOX. Here’s the bad news: 17.8 million people tuned into the American Idol premiere. That’s a 19 percent decline over Season 11’s premiere audience of 21.6 million (which was also a double digit drop over the previous season). Here’s the good news: It still won its night for total viewership with its closest competition, CBS’ Criminal Minds, garnering 11 million viewers. [TVGuide.com]

Beauty and the Beast has landed itself a Twilight actor. Edi Gathegi, who played Laurent on New Moon will join The CW drama in a recurring role. He’ll play Kyle, a “composed agent for a top-secret organization with killer looks and instincts to match. He doesn’t like his time to be wasted, and can easily assess anyone’s weaknesses and happily exploit them.” Gathegi has also appeared in X Men: First Class and on FOX’s House. [EW]

Head of the Class star Robin Givens has been booked in a guest starring role on The CW’s 90210. She’ll play Cheryl, mom to two characters, Elizabeth (played by Keke Palmer) and Jordan (Robbie Jones, who has yet to appear on the series). [E!Online]

There are some changes coming to FX. According to reports, News Corp. is looking at splitting it into two networks. The new network would be called FXX and will be geared to the 20-something market and comedies. It may replace FOX Soccer. [TheWrap]
