‘The Notebook’ and That ‘If You’re a Bird, I’m a Bird’ Scene Turn 10: A Flashback
Ladies and gentlemen, The Notebook turns 10 today.
That’s right, while you’re checking for wrinkles and gray hair, let me remind you that exactly a decade ago, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams won hearts and made us cry for days when they brought Noah and Allie from Nicholas Sparks’ book to the big screen. The film would go on to gross more than $81 million in North America ($115.6 million worldwide), making it the 14th highest grossing romantic drama of all time.
In 2008, after dating on-and-off for about two years, Gosling and McAdams called it quits, causing the world to yet again erupt in tears.
This anniversary has made me curious about other things that turn the big 1-0 this year. The grand list includes Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone,” Kate Gosselin’s sextuplets, Napoleon Dynamite, Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County and the aforementioned Mean Girls. Do what you will in commemorating those morsels of pop culture.
In the meantime, do yourself a favor and watch The Notebook some time today. Or, if you’re still stuck at the office, enjoy the lovely “If you’re a bird, I’m a bird” scene, above.
BRB going to look for my DVD copy of The Notebook.
