Whitney Houston Makes a Statement: She’s Back!

Whitney Houston took a big step forward in proving her comeback is real with a stunning performance Saturday night at a pre-Grammy party in Beverly Hills.

Houston, wearing a skin-tight leopard dress, wowed the A-list celebrity crowd at a party honoring recording honcho Clive Davis.

“This is a new beginning,” actor Jamie Foxx told the Associated Press. “She was on it and she was happy. Everyone watch out.”

Foxx spent most of the performance taking video like any other star struck fan.

Houston dipped into her classic hits including “I Will Always Love You.” It was noted that Houston did not hit all her standard high notes in the classic tune, keeping it on medium power for now.

But it was big step for the 45-year-old icon whose tumultuous personal life and drug use has all but put the brakes on her music and movie career. Houston, who has not made an album since 2002, is expected to release a record this year.

The performance even stole the spotlight from the other big story of the evening—the continued return of Jennifer Hudson. The singer followed her Super Bowl performance with a rendition of her Grammy-nominated hit “Spotlight,” bringing a standing ovation from the crowd.

Hudson then performed in one of the more unusual music duos in recent memory—alongside Barry Manilow. Hudson added some soul to Manilow’s signature hit “Weekend in New England.”
