Who Is Benjamin Millepied, Natalie Portman's Fiance?

Benjamin Millepied: Natalie Portman's New Man

Black Swan star Natalie Portman surprised everyone when she announced Monday morning that she is engaged to boyfriend Benajmin Millepied and is expecting her first child with him – but who exactly is Benjamin and how did he manage to win over the heart of one of the most talented young actresses in Hollywood? Celebuzz did some digging and found out all you need to know about the future Mr. Natalie Portman.

Who Is Benajmin?

Originally born in Bordeaux, France, the 33-year-old Benjamin is a principal dancer at the prestigious New York City Ballet. While he may not be an A-lister in the celebrity world, he is a well-known star in the world of ballet thanks to his years of work as a dancer and choreographer.

Check out Benjamin dancing with Ula Sickle in "Phrases Now" below.

How Did He Meet Natalie?

Benjamin met Natalie in 2009 when he served as choreographer for Black Swan. Eventually, he found himself on the other side of the camera when he was enlisted to play the part of Natalie and co-star Mila Kunis' dance partner. While he only had six lines total, Benjamin said he was "blown away" by Natalie and the other actors' talent.

Where Was He Trained?

Benjamin's mother owned a dance school in France, so it was only natural that he would turn to ballet at a young age. Benjamin eventually trained with the Conservatoire National in Lyon, France and entered the School of American Ballet when he was 16. Eventually, he landed a spot on New York City Ballet and, at 18, became one of the company's brightest young stars.

But Wait, Isn't Ballet Not Very...Masculine? Pfft! Haven't you ever heard of Mikhail Baryshnikov? In fact, Benjamin was partly inspired by the famed dancer-cum-actor to enter the dance world. "In France, ballet is on TV," Benjamin told Details, "It's a cool thing to be a dancer." With his tattoos (Bauhaus black tats on his abs) and scruffy good looks, he  certainly brings a fresh burst of hipness to ballet. Still doubting Benjamin's masculinity? Check out these hot pictures of him flexing his toned muscles in Details.

How Does Natalie Feel About Working With (And Dating) Benjamin?

"He knows how to change when things aren't working well," Natalie recently told People. "Sometimes I just couldn't do something. No matter how hard I worked, I couldn't do it. He would fix it to make it something that I could do."

Want to see where Natalie and Benjamin's love began? Check out the trailer for Black Swan below.

That's pretty mean to call someone a snob. My experience is that vegetarians/vegans are constantly asked why they eat the way they do. When they give their answer even if in the nicest way it puts meat eaters on the defensive. And then the meat eaters are throwing out rude comments trying to convince people to eat the way they do. It really doesn't matter what anyone thinks of the way I eat. When I am 60 years old with clean arteries and no excess fat on my body I'll see all my meat eating counterparts body's deteriorating from the stress of ALL that animal protein. And remember that eating food that comes from animals is something humans have done in MODERATION up until recent history. You can't simply say that because cavemen might have caught a buffalo and shared it amongst 10 people that it's the same as eating every meal of your life with some kind of animal product in it. VERY DIFFERENT.

I hope this would be longer. For me, a child must always have mom and dad. If its parents are so promiscuous to jump from one bad to another, from one relations to another - this proves the world goes mad. I hope Natalie will be happy forever together with the guy "of a thousand legs" (this is the translation of his last name)/

In my opinion, killing animals for food isn't right but HOW WOULD I LIVE without meat??? It tastes so good! But every time I eat it I feel guilty. Things about star vegetarians have a certain weak point, you know. They are rich and they have plenty of means to look gorgeous without eating meat. But in poor countries those who don't eat much meat are not very healthy, so the previous guy was right, my vego-pals also look not so good. All I want to say - a really balanced vego-diet costs A LOT, I believe it.

I think he is a fame digger! I think anyone who dumps their long time relationship for someone more famous, rich, etc is vain. Natalie taking up with a man who was in a relationship is just as bad. I really thought she was better than that. I still love and respect her work but personally I lost a little respect for her. When media loves you they rarely mention the girlfriend/wife left behind, i.e. Julia Roberts stole a married man! WTF?

I'm a gluten free vegan and I'm here to say that I feel much better than I ever did in my life. Humans don't need meat to live. Period. Those are all myths, everyone who thinks otherwise should learn how to research and read. But to each his own =)

THE 'NO B-12' MYTH IS RULED: FALSE Shaggyskunk WROTE: "I have heard that the only source of B12 is from animal protien, is this in fact true?" NO. THIS IS FALSE! The False Myth saying that there is no B12 in vegetarian or vegan items, and B-12 only comes from meat or animal products that is seen all over the place spread often by meat-eaters has been EXPOSED AS FALSE. Here is the correct information. Vitamin B12 is NOT only available in meat. Vitamin B-12 *IS* present in both Vegetarian AND Vegan food. SCIENTIFIC PROOF THAT VEGAN FOODS HAVE VITAMIN B12: Witness the scientific report, direct from the Journal of Food Chemistry, a publication of the American Chemical Society, wherein even plain normal white button mushrooms, a vegan source, are now confirmed to contain Vitamin B-12. PROOF: "Vitamin B12 Is the Active Corrinoid Produced in Cultivated White Button Mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus)" J. Agric. Food Chem., 2009, 57 (14), pp 6327–6333 What this means, is that the false statement by meat-eaters fraudulently attempting to state that vegans can't obtain B-12 is revealed as being FALSE. B-12 is readily available in all vegan diets, from entirely vegan sources. Not only that, but it is also revealed that Vitamin B-12 is not even produced by meat animals. One more time... B-12 DOES NOT ORIGINATE IN MEAT. Vitamin B12 isn't even produced by meat, beef, or livestock animals. It turns out that B-12 is actually produced by bacteria, that (good) bacteria is now found to be present all over the place, gets ON or lives ON things, including plants, anything that has that bacteria on it, has B12, including plants. So meat is not even the source of Vitamin B-12 in the first place, the only reason meat has any B12 in it in the first place, is because meat has bacteria on it. These bacteria also live in the intestines of hogs and animals, but it also means that B12 is present all over the earth, and this means B12, including the proper active form used by humans, is now confirmed present in vegan foods. The Meat-VitaminB12 myth is scientifically debunked. ATTENTION TO THE PUBLIC: IF you ever see ANY PERSON falsely attempting to post or assert that Vitamin B12 is "only" available in meat or animal products, that perpetrator has just posted falsified information. Be aware, that despite the fact that this is known false, you may STILL see it posted all over the internet, erroneously on comments, chat boards, from disreputable sources, but ALSO even by so-called "doctors", self-appointed "sports nutritionists", and so forth! This does not mean that it is true. Remember, even so-called doctors have been caught for mal-practice, dispensing false information, have an agenda to push, and obtain perks from the pharmaceuticalindustry, or are simply un-informed on the subject and un-wittingly actually believe it (under-educated). Due to this, even *some* vegetarians, vegans, and vegan organizations or websites have been duped by the meat-eater(s) who started the myth, and the meat-eaters who tried to dupe the public, and so you 'may' even find vegetarian sites mistakenly saying it. It STILL doesn't make it true. As you can see above, the myth has been scientifically confirmed as False by science. Once again... VITAMIN B-12 HAS NOW BEEN CONFIRMED IN VEGAN FOODS. This means that a Vegan diet is confirmed as Natural. B-12 is freely obtainable in nature. In addition, a search of PubMed archives reveals less than 30 cases of even any serious symptoms of Vitamin B-12 deficiency in vegans across a timespan of nearly 30 years! This means, with 6 billion people on earth, and the current proportion of vegans, one would *predict* over 2 MILLION cases of problems EACH year with vegans succumbing by the millions, but this is NOT SEEN. Instead, the prevalence and chances of vegan B12 deficiency with any serious symptoms if you are a vegan is less than 1 in 6 BILLION! Compare that with the fact that in comparison to 1 per year of even any problem with vegans, and non-fatal at that, more than 45-THOUSAND PEOPLE DIE ATTRIBUTABLE TO A DIET OF MEAT, EVERY YEAR, and that is JUST in the UK alone. Therefore, any person quick to accuse a vegan diet of any problems, many of which dont even cause death, had better be prepared to defend the fact that the MEAT diet they are defending and pushing is attributed to more than 45,000 cases of HUMAN DEATH linked to eating meat. The statement that B-12 is only available in animal products has been revealed as False. All persons reading this should now copy this scientific information, and on any site, article, blog, facebook page, or message board where some person has falsely attempted to assert that B12 is only available in animal products(false), go spread the truth, and discredit that person's fallacious post with the fact that B12 is even found in plain mushrooms. Vitamin B-12 has now been scientifically confirmed in vegan food sources. The myth is false.

I am also a vegan/sometimes a vegetarian but I agree with Rain--this forum is full of overreactions! But I am also curious to know if this hot ballet dancer is a vegan or considering becoming one, and am also wondering if he speaks any other languages besides French and English. will they raise their child with two languages? will their child be a vegan from birth?

Okaaay, so MY personal observations are stupid? I'm not attacking anybody, I'm mearly pointing out some scientific facts. Oh, and most of the vegetarians I've know (and now you apparently) are self righteous snobs. Get a life and stop attacking people for voicing their opinions. Disagree with me all you want, it's a free country, but the FACT is, half of the vegetarians I've know are disturbingly skinny. Sorry if my meat-eating opinion offends you. Oh and for the person who wants the comments on topic... uh... got one, I'm curious to know if he's Jewish, since Natalie has stated that she wanted to marry a nice Jewish boy. I have heard that the only source of B12 is from animal protien, is this in fact true? Shaggyskunk, if you're a vegetarian you're probably not lacking B12 because you get plenty of B12 through dairy like milk, eggs and cheese. But if you're a vegan which means you eat nothing from animal sources then you could still easily get B12 by eating foods that are fortified with this vitamin such as fortified cereals or fortified milk substitutes like soy milk or coconut milk. Almost every cereal box that you but at the supermarket is now fortified with B12. And many milk substitutes are fortified with B12, Vita D and Calcium. But make sure to read the labels. Also, many people take a multivitamin once a day. Most multivitamins bring a lot of B12. So if you're like the rest of Americans and you're already taking a multi chances are you're covered.

Humans are VEGETARIANS?! That's a FACT?! Do a little research yourself! Humans are SECONDARY CARNIVORES, that IS a fact. As an anthropology student, I've read quite a bit about the development of the human diet and how it has affected our evolution. Without eating meat, there would be no human beings. I eat meat daily, and except for smoking, my health is excellent. Besides, about half of the vegetarians I've every known (and as a bleeding heart-liberal and musician- that's A LOT of vegetarians!) are very slight, even gaunt, and quite sickly. Each to their own, but please don't spout out junk you clearly know NOTHING about. Gaunt and Sickly?! Bwahahahahaha, I wish! I'm 5'6 and 155 lbs and a vegetarian. I'm not obese by any means but I'm certainly not a stick figure. I have love handles, a big butt, thick legs, and a little bit of a belly. If anything, I need to loose a few pounds. Did anybody ever watch ABC's Ugly Betty? Remember Betty's big sister Hilda? Well, guess what? That curvaceous young woman is a vegetarian in real life! Her real name is Ana Ortiz and just google her and you'll see she eats no meat or poultry. Curvy swimsuit model Joanna Krupa (she used to date Supernatural's Jensen Ackles) is also 100% VEGAN. Curvy soulful singer Leona Lewis is also 100% VEGAN. Look at how strong her body and voice are. Super muscular and fit singer Pink is also 100% VEGAN. There's nothing sickly or gaunt about her. She's the picture perfect of health and strength. Buff and ripped hip hop artist/actor Common is 100% VEGAN. MMA professional fighters Jake Shields is VEGETARIAN and Mac Danzig is 100% VEGAN and these are some of the strongest men on planet earth. Many of those PETA women are also very curvy and most of them are vegan. Your comment about vegetarians & vegans being sickly and gaunt was hilariously stupid.

I would highly doubt it. Being a dancer requires protein in your diet. Along with fats. It's essential to keep muscle mass and stamina for all the hard training they go through. I'm NOT a vegan, but I know for a fact that you can get proteins and fats with non meat sources. I'm majoring in food sciences in college. People eat meat and poultry because they WANT to not because they HAVE to. You could get all of that protein with a balanced vegetarian/vegan diet.

Why would you ASSUME that being vegetarian means not getting enough protein in your diet (or fat for that matter)? You need to do a little research. There are plenty of sources of protein in the vegetable world (actually far more choices than meat). The ONLY reason anyone eats meat is for the taste. Not for health reasons. Humans are herbivores not carnivores, that's a fact! Also, most Americans eat way more protein on a daily basis which does lead to health problems over time. Humans are VEGETARIANS?! That's a FACT?! Do a little research yourself! Humans are SECONDARY CARNIVORES, that IS a fact.
