Who Sells It Best: Marc Jacobs or His Muses?

Dec 4, 2008 at 5:59pm

Today’s big reveal of Madonna‘s Spring ’09 Louis Vuitton campaign caps off a long run of blending fame and fashion by the legendary French couture house’s creative director, Marc Jacobs.

A name synonymous with ingenuity, for both his Vuitton designs and in the conception of his self-named fashion empire, Jacobs has ensured that both brands have had many a celebrity face in their company profiles.

Innovative, glamorous and arresting portraits of Scarlet Johansson, Victoria Beckham, Francis Ford Coppola, Uma Thurman, Dakota Fanning and Christina Ricci have been presented as ads across both labels—always chic, always airbrushed impeccably and always evocative enough to drum up sales or publicity.

This month, however, Jacobs himself is appearing in a print campaign to celebrate the newest Vuitton “it” bag—a pink graffiti covered duffel paying homage to ’80s artist Stephen Sprouse.

The 45-year-old designer’s insanely toned body coupled with his creative genius has fashion watchers wondering: Who better sells the stock? Jacobs or the famous faces in his ads?

Take the Marc Jacobs poll, to the right.  Then check out the full gallery of prior luminaries all immortalized by Marc.
