Who's Russell Brand and Why Is He Hosting the VMAs?

British comedian Russell Brand is slated to host the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, which will air live from Paramount Studios in L.A. on September 7.

So, you might ask yourself, "Who the eff is Russell Brand?"

American audiences had a chance to catch Brand in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and in the Reese Witherspoon-produced flick Penelope earlier this year.

Brand will also star alongside Adam Sandler in this fall's Bedtime Stories. So in other words, no, you've never heard of him.

But let's point out some of his classier accomplishments! For instance, last month Russell was rumored to be dating carpet trash pro Phoebe Price. She apparently swooped in after Sarah Marshall made Russell a minor blip on the radar.

He was also a host on an MTV U.K. program, but got fired after coming to work dressed as Osama bin Laden on September 12, 2001.
