The Mann Village Theater's name took on a somewhat ironic overtone last night, as The Women had its Los Angeles premiere amid a sea of famous femmes.
The movie's stars Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Candice Bergen, Eva Mendes, Debra Messing and Jada Pinkett Smith were on hand for the L.A. unveiling of the film, which is a remake of the 1939 flick detailing a group of society women who bond over marital infidelity at a resort.
While grabbing red-carpet face time, Bergen—who drew the wrath of former Republican Vice President Dan Quayle when she portrayed an unwed mother on Murphy Brown—weighed in on the controversy over current GOP VP nominee Sarah Palin's pregnant teenage daughter.
"I heard [Palin's Republican national convention] speech, and it's scary," Bergen opined.
Also on hand: American Pie actress Tara Reid who, while not in the movie, managed to keep both of her breasts in her dress for the event and was sober enough to stand on her own two feet without assistance for once. Good job, girl!

"Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Candice Bergen, Debra Messing and Jada Pinkett Smith"
Throw in Ray Ramano and Buffy the Vampire Slayer and you'd have yourself a "I used to be cool back in 2002" party.
Cloris Leachman could eff them all up.
Unless these broads are scissoring each other for two hours, you can count my ass out.
omg, scissoring!
I totally want to see Cloris Leachman scissoring with Candice Bergen.
Here's my question: Why can't I find any reviews on this movie? Probably because the producers were afraid of making all the other movies feel inferior. On a serious note, The Women should have all the broad appeal of Sex and the City. Except without the sex, and lacking the pony-faced transsexual. Broad appeal. Get it?
By the way, Eva Mendes and Jada Pinkett-Smith look just like two girls I broke up with at the same time because they insisted on buying me embarrassingly expensive baubles. I find it disheartening when women can't share without engaging in fierce competition.
I think they all did terrific. "The Women" is a fun movie, with a lot of things that make us think...My opinion about Eva Mendes: she played her part really good, besides being so gorgeous. I think the late Joan Crawford would have been very happy with her performance. I think something was missing at the end since Eva never came back either furious or sorry. Congratulations Ladies, we need more of this type of movies.
