On Friday, photos of Beyonce and Jay-Z’s first child, daughter Blue Ivy Carter, surfaced on the internet. Unlike most Hollywood couples, the new parents released these intimate hospital photos on Tumblr. Bey and Jay thanked fans for their kind messages, saying:
“We welcome you to share our joy. Thank you for respecting our privacy during this beautiful time in our lives.”
Beyonce’s sister, Solange Knowles, tweeted about her niece just hours after the photos hit the web. The singer wrote:
THE PROUDEST AUNT IN THE WORLD….OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL IN THE WORLD!
Baby Blue Ivy was born on January 7 in New York City. Fans speculated that Blue’s unique name refers to Beyonce and Jay-Z’s past musical endeavors. Many claimed that Blue’s first name is a reference to Jay-Z’s 2001 album The Blueprint. As for Ivy? Some fans said it stood for IV — the Roman numeral for 4, which coincidentally is the name of Beyonce’s 2011 album.
Soon after the birth of their daughter, the proud parents released an official statement that read:
“Hello Hello Baby Blue! We are happy to announce the arrival of our beautiful daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, born on Saturday, January 7, 2012.
Her birth was emotional and extremely peaceful, we are in heaven. She was delivered naturally at a healthy 7 lbs and it was the best experience of both of our lives. We are thankful to everyone for all your prayers, well wishes, love and support.”
