Despite reports that the “Oops I Did It Again” diva has struggled to find her feet as a judge on the Fox talent show and even stormed off the stage after a hopeful butchered one of her songs, our insider said the 30-year-old has “settled into the role really well.”
“She’s really massively grown in confidence as a judge and that was noticeable at just her second audition,” the source told Celebuzz.
“Even though she can be somewhat ruthless with the contestants, Britney loves interesting and fun auditions and is prepared to stick her neck out and support someone — no matter if some of the other judges disagree with her.”
Case in point: Spears and L.A. Reid disagreed on whether one contestant should advance to the next round at the auditions in Kansas City on Friday and Saturday.
Spears told the contestant, “You are interesting and different. You have a real artistic appeal and that’s what I find most interesting about you. That’s what I’m here to find.”
With fellow judge and show executive producer Cowell struck down with bronchitis and unable to take his spot at the judges’ table in Kansas, Spears found an ally in stand-in judge Louis Walsh, who was flown out from the United Kingdom.

He told the wannabe X Factor contestant, who Spears supported: “It’s fun and that’s what this is also about – I want to see you perform again.”
“It looked like Louis and Britney got on well at Kansas. He was talking to her a lot. She was clearly very comfortable next to him and he was a big Britney fan before he arrived in the States, anyway.”
Spears brushed off reports that she has been walking out during audtions by telling fans via Twitter: “LOL was just taking a little break people. I am having the best time.”
