Celebuzzchatted with Leonor Varela, who plays femme fatale Marta Del Sol on the series, to dish about what fans can expect this upcoming season. Although Varela, 39, kept mum on Marta’s actual devious plans for the Ewing family, she did spill on some of her character’s steamy bedroom scenes with John Ross Ewing III.
What was it like getting down and dirty with her hunky costar, Josh Henderson?
“I wasn’t nervous at all. I was so in control and I love that,” she told Celebuzz of her onscreen romp. “During the scene, I would be like, ‘Okay, I’m going to do this, and I’m going to do that. Yes, I like that. Now I’m going to go over here.'”
“It was just fun and you get to be very creative. All the stuff that’s there is just stuff from my twisted imagination,” she added.
Dallas, which returned to television after a 21-year break this Wednesday night, centers around the Ewings, a wealthy Texan family in the oil and cattle-ranching business. Varela’s character, Marta, has plans to take over the Ewing’s empire by seducing their heir, John Ross.
Although things between Marta and John do get pretty heated in the upcoming episodes (we won’t spoil it for you), Varela says her relationship with Henderson is nothing more than friends joking off on set.
“Josh is like a brother in a sense He’s just such a professional and we worked really well together,” she said. “I was just recently talking to the executive producer and he was like, “Gosh, the chemistry between you and Josh is incredible!’”
“I’m the one to hang with the guys off set, so when I have to put on the heels and the dress and it’s time to go, it’s like, ‘Okay, now I’m the girl’ and it turns the dynamic around.”
“It’s just a game so we just have fun. I think there in lies the secret.”
As for her character, Varela admits she was shocked to learn about Marta’s manipulative ways when she read the full script.
“I was like, ‘What!? I didn’t think it was bad when I signed up for this!’ I was not aware at all at where it was going when I was auditioning,” she confessed. “[The writers] knew and they didn’t say anything, of course. Sneaky Bastards!”
However, Chilean beauty insists that Marta is more than just a villain on the show.
“She is very ambitious in the sense that she can do what it takes to get the job done. At the same time, she also has a true weakness for John Ross Jr. She has a weakness for this man which will be, in the end, not so good for her,” she explained about Marta. “I think she really likes him, which makes her so relatable as a character, I think.”
“I think Marta is a woman that has been through a lot. She has seen it all and has been played with too many times to be played again. She’s a tough cookie!”
Dallas airs Tuesdays on 9 PM on TNT.
