Note: Spoilers ahead if you haven’t watched “Let’s Boot and Rally.”
By reading the memories of the one person who saw Russell’s escape, Sookie (Anna Paquin) leads Eric (Alexander Skarsgard), Bill (Stephen Moyer) and Alcide (Joe Manganiello) to where Russell (Denis O’Hare) is recuperating. It couldn’t have happened any sooner as The Authority gave Bill and Eric until dawn to find the escaped vampire before they killed them. But, Russell – even in his weakened state – isn’t going out without a fight.
In other unwelcome guests from the episode, Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) tries to banish the blue demon from his body, but what does that get him? Visions of a headless Jesus (Kevin Alejandro) with a muffled message. WTF, True Blood!?
Also, Terry (Todd Lowe) and Patrick’s (Scott Foley) old platoon mate tells them that some kind of fire monster called the “ilfrit” is coming after them. And Terry believes him, because he not only saw it but also killed the woman who sent it after them. But, Patrick isn’t sold on the story. By the way, did anyone else wonder why Terry would light a cigarette when a fire monster was after him?
Meanwhile, Jason (Ryan Kwanten) and Andy (Chris Bauer) arrive to investigate the murders of Sam’s (Sam Trammell) shifter friends. And later, he goes to break the news to Luna (Janina Gavankar) when a truck full of masked hicks arrives in front of her house. Sam and Luna get shot while her daughter shifts into a puppy and escapes. But, it looks like Luna may be a goner…
Back at Fangtasia, Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) puts Tara to work behind the bar. After getting scolded for almost sinking her teeth in a customer, Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) tries to give her some advice about accepting her new vamp life. That bond lasts about 30 minutes before Jessica discovers Tara drinking a tall glass of Hoyt (Jim Parrack) – her ex-boyfriend. I guess girl code extends into the afterlife. Girlfight!
OMG!: Someone within The Authority released Russell!
Thank you, TV gods: Russell finally makes the return we wanted back in Season 4 and things should get very complicated on the next episode. Not to mention, he gets the best lines of the show.
Awk-ward: At the top of the episode, Jason dreams that he’s a kid again. But, his father and mother both have bloody vampire bites in their necks. That’s bad enough, but then Jason’s bloody mom asks him if he wants a blowjob? True Blood writers, you just ain’t right.
Hotness: Jason woke up naked. ‘Nuff said.
Fab-u-lous: It may be a style tie, but both went down in Fangtasia. I dig Tara all Pam’d up with big hair, eyelashes and wearing a corset. But, I’m also starting to dig Hoyt’s retro-80s vamp-bait look, too.
Can. Not. Wait.: I’m still waiting for the backstory and significance of vampires killing Jason and Sookie’s parents.
