Following Frank Ocean’s recent coming out, Fifty is supporting the rising R&B artist — and slamming his critics.
“Anyone that has an issue with Frank Ocean is an idiot,” the Get Rich or Die Tryin’ MC told MTV UK. “I think Frank Ocean is a talented artist, I think he’s created material that made me know his name, that impressed me, with things he said on a song like ‘Novacane.'”
And as far at Fifty is concerned, Ocean’s musical makings are far more important than his sexuality.
Ocean opened up on his Tumblr about his first love being a man on July 4, just a week before he digitally debuted his critically-acclaimed freshman album Channel Orange a week ahead of its slated release date. And Fifty knows that was no coincidence.
“You can call it brave or you can call it marketing, because it was intentional; it wasn’t an accident,” he said, commenting on timing of Channel Orange’s debut. “It could be revolutionary or it could be a tragedy.”
Ocean surely isn’t the first non-heterosexual artist. “There are artists before who have made these choices just not having made the choice to expose it to the general public before an actual release of music,” 50 said.
But times are a changin’ — and 50 Cent is changing with them. “Obama is for same-sex marriage,” he pointed out. “If the president is saying that, then who am I to go the other way?”
