In a statement addressed to her fans, the 26-year-old Born This Way singer lambasted her attackers, calling them “childish” and “abusive.”
“I do not … support violent, abusive, and childish campaigns for ANY CAUSE,” she wrote. “Particularly one that I respect. ‘Animal Rights.'”
“I am choosing not to comment on whether or not the furs I purchase are faux fur-pile or real because I would think it hypercritical not to acknowledge the python, ostrich, cow hide, leather, lamb, alligator, ‘kermit’ and not to mention meat, that I have already worn,” she explains.
“I have truly always stayed away from skinned fur, especially i have never been able to afford a nice one, but this does not mean my morals are rigid and that I won’t bend at the sight of an absolute art piece of a coat,” she said.
Gaga closes her statement with a reference to Kim Kardashian, who was flour-bombed earlier this year by a member of PETA.
“To campaigners, Save your flour to make bread for the children who are hungry. And Kim Kardashian is fabulous.”
Over the last few days, Gaga has been criticized left and right for wearing fur. Among her attackers: the aforementioned PETA, as well as Tony-winning actor Alan Cumming.
“I’m so disappointed to learn @ladygaga wears fur! Guess she doesn’t love all little monsters,” Cumming tweeted.
Whose side are you on? Are you pro-Gaga? Or should she hang up her fur?
