Declaring she loves the song Clarkson said, however, “it kind of confuses” her.
What is so puzzling about the song?
“Oh my gosh, I love that song but it kind of confuses me,” the 30-year-old told the audience after singing the song at a fan’s request.
“Does it confuse anyone else?” Clarkson asked the crowd. “‘Before you came into my life I missed you so’ — but who do you miss because you don’t know them?”
Clarkson revealed to the crowd it was the first time she had performed the song.
“(Fan) Adam picked this song, actually a lot of people picked this song but we haven’t done it yet,” the “Since You Been Gone” singer said.
This isn’t her first time covering another artist’s song: Clarkson also did her version of Eminem’s “Loose Yourself” at the show. However, Jepsen’s summer hit carried a special meaning for her.
Back in 2007, way before the rest of the world knew Jepsen, Clarkson was her mentor on Canadian Idol. Clarkson helped the young singer develop her sound on the show. Jepsen eventually placed third in the competition.
Clarkson joins a long list of stars that have done “Call Me Maybe” covers.
