MTV has confirmed to Celebuzz that the Jersey Shore cast will be saying its final farewell with its upcoming sixth season.
The franchise series’ last season kicks off on Oct. 4 at 10 PM ET/PT, followed by bonus programming of fan-favorite after-shows and reunion specials.
The news comes after the fist-pumping, party-hopping juggernaut saw ratings decline during the last few seasons.
Does this mean the party is over the for the Jersey Shore family?
While the cast — which includes Paul “DJ Pauly D” DelVecchio, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, Jenni “JWoww” Farley, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, Samantha “Sammi Sweetheart” Giancola, Vinny Guadagnino and Angelina Pivarnick — won’t return to summer on the Shore, a few of the stars will continue with their planned MTV spinoff series.
Snooki — who gave birth to son Lorenzo LaValle on Sunday — and her BFF costar JWoww will continue with their show, Snooki & JWoww, which premiered its first 12-episode season on June 21. It was confirmed earlier this month that the ladies will film a second season. The Pauly D Project, which debuted in March, has yet to announce another season.
Some of the Jersey Shore stars are leaving MTV, but sticking to the small screen. The Situation, after a small cameo role on ABC’s Suburgatory, is now a housemate on season 10 of Celebrity Big Brother.
Others of the GTL crew may have new careers in mind. Following the announcement of the show’s cancellation, Guadagnino tweeted — perhaps with a tinge of sarcasm — his White House aspirations. “Alright, so I guess I’ll run for president now #Vinny2012.”
And he wasn’t the only one to sound off on the news on Twitter. “It’s been one hell of a ride but this is just the beginning!” Sammi Sweetheart wrote to her followers. “Thank you all for your love & support throughout the seasons!! These memories will never be forgotten!!”
Pauly D shared her sentiment, tweeting: “All Good Things Must Come To An End, But #TeamDJPaulyD Lives On And It’s Just Getting Started !!! Tweet I AM #TeamDJPaulyD If You With Me.”
