Kanye West pulled his most surprising Video Music Awards stunt yet on Thursday night — by skipping the MTV awards show altogether.
“No, no, he’s working,” Kardashian said at the launch of her new fragrance, True Reflection, at Lord & Taylor for Fashion’s Night Out in New York City. “He’s recording an album. I’m sure he’d love to be there, but he’s out of town.”
And why didn’t Kardashian show up for music’s biggest night?
The TV-star-turned-entrepreneur had long been booked with a previous commitment — namely, to promote her fifth fragrance during the kick-off night of New York Fashion Week.
“Well, we shot the commercial for it,” Kardashian said, referencing the one-minute promo spot she and West recorded with this year’s VMAs host, Kevin Hart. “Back then, I knew this was booked months in advance. So I always knew I wasn’t going to be able to attend.”
And she wasn’t the only one missed at the MTV awards show. For the past few years, West has left his mark on the ceremony. His most unforgettable moment came in 2009, when he bum-rushed Taylor Swift on stage to interrupt her Female Video of the Year acceptance speech. Last year, he and his “Watch the Throne” collaborator Jay-Z joined the show’s lineup last minute. And in 2010, West debuted “Runaway,” bringing the VMAs to a close with his “toast for the dou—bags.”
But that controversial ditty is not Kardashian’s favorite Kanye tune. Does she have a No. 1 of her beau’s many chart-topping hits?
“I do,” she said. “It’s ‘Can’t Tell Me Notihn’.”
