Gomez is not only returning to star on Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place one-hour special, she’s executive producing. That gives her a good chance to make sure that the TV event lives up to fans’ expectations.
“It was my idea to kind of start this, because I wanted to do it really badly.” the 20-year-old tells Radio Disney’s Ernie D of her new role on the show in an interview airing Friday at 6 PM ET/ 3 PM PT on the radio network.
“I want to make sure I promise the cast and the fans a really, really good hour-long event that they can enjoy and will leave them feeling good,” she continues.
What else did Gomez say about returning for the Wizards of Waverly Place TV event?
“I’m not ready for [Wizards] to be over, so I just kind of want to do one more thing,” she says.
Disney channel aired the hit show’s series finale in January, which attracted 11.3 million viewers. With four seasons and multiple Emmys and BAFTA awards under its belt, the show about three siblings with magical powers remains one of Disney Channel’s most successful series ever.
And the actress and platinum-selling recording artist feels compelled to bring the series back for another hurrah.
“I’m working on my new record and I had great projects I was a part of this year,” she tells Ernie D. “But, Wizards and Disney Channel and everything that is a part of this is my home.”
Gomez joins co-stars Jake T. Austin, Jennifer Stone, Maria Canals-Barrera, David DeLuise and Gregg Sulkin on the one-hour program, which takes the crew to Italy to reunite with long lost relatives.
