The singer just signed a three-year collaboration deal with the iconic sneaker company that were all the rage on the playground back in the day.
Why is Swift bringing back the brand after all these years?
Well, the country star didn’t leave her Keds behind for long, and she had been spotted rocking the retro sneaks long before she partnered with the brand.
“I’ve been a fan of Keds for years, because they have two of my favorite elements of great style — they’re classic and effortless. I remember wearing Keds as a little kid, while riding my bike around the farm. When I got older, I started wearing them again. There’s something cool about shoes that you can grow up with,” Swift told WWD.
The classic sneakers also fit in nicely with the nautical-prep style Taylor has embraced since spending time with beau Connor Kennedy on Cape Cod.
The timing for the collaboration couldn’t be more perfect either.
The first Swift sneaker to be released — aptly called “Red” — will be — wait for it — red and will coincide with the singer’s new album, also dubbed “Red.”
The limited-edition champion style sneaker is based on the very first Keds sneaker that was introduced in 1916, and will only be available at Keds.com, Nordstrom.com and Journeys.com — as well as the singer’s own site, TaylorSwift.com — that will retail for $50.
But if Swift’s Red Keds collection sells out before you scoop up a pair, you’re in luck: The company says Taylor will play a larger role in expanding the brand’s women’s line, including apparel. Stay tuned for Keds’ preppy pals — polka-dots, stripes and gingham.
