During the 2012 Academy Awards, Stone teamed up with funnyman Ben Stiller to present the award for Visual Effects. As they commanded the stage, the actress (and first-time presenter) pretended to bask in spotlight, gushing over the evening’s glitz and glamour — a performance that led some to believe she was intoxicated.
“When I came offstage, they were saying, ‘You were so drunk!’ And I wasn’t. Not until after,” Stone said in an interview with W Magazine.
Nearly a year later, Stone made for another memorable Oscars appearance, this time helping host Seth MacFarlane announce the 2013 nominees. Although she remained sober for the early morning telecast, Stone couldn’t help but crack a few controversial jokes with the Family Guy creator.
“You know, the MTV Awards once gave Michael Jackson a Lifetime Achievement Award just so he would show up,” she joked to MacFarlane after he received a nod for Best Original Song for his hit comedy, Ted.
Throughout the course (84 years, to be exact) of Oscar history, Stone and a slew of other presenters have made an impressionable mark as they named the latest recipients of the film industry’s most coveted award.
Who could forget when Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly and Jack Black professed their love for Best Actress winner Helen Mirren through a musical ode in 2008? Or when Jennifer Anistontook the stage in 2009, donning a shimmery gown to present the Best Animation category…with Brad Pittand Angelina Jolie sitting a few feet away?
