Jay Gatsby and company couldn’t catch up to Tony Stark’s box office party this weekend, as Iron Man 3 sailed to the top for the second weekend in a row.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Marvel blockbuster grossed another $72.5 million in North America, bringing its worldwide total to $950 million.

Baz Luhrmann’s take on the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic didn’t bomb at the box office, taking in $51.1 million, but there just wasn’t enough horsepower, even with the talents of Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan. (The film played in fewer theaters as well, 3,535 vs. Iron Man 3’s 4,253, as noted on Box Office Mojo).

The muscles spectacle otherwise known as Pain and Gain, starring Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg finished the weekend at a distant third place with $5 million.

The weekend’s other newcomer Tyler Perry Presents Peeples grossed $4.85 million to take fourth place, while the baseball biopic 42 rounded out the top five with $4.65 million.

On deck for the summer blockbuster season: Star Trek Into Darkness.
