It’s a story of man meets woman — only she was the most famous woman in the world.
In the first full-length trailer for the upcoming biopic Diana, Naomi Watts takes audiences into the private life of publicly-admired Diana, the Princess of Wales, as she fell in love with a heart surgeon, Dr. Hasnat Kahn (Naveen Andrews), in her final two years.
“He doesn’t treat me like a princess,” Watts’ Diana confides in friend. “It’s almost as if he doesn’t know who I am.”
But Diana’s passionate love affair with the Pakistani doctor — which followed her exit from the royal family, when she divorced from Prince Charles — was doomed, crippling under public scrutiny and pressure from his conservative Muslim family. The romance ended just before Diana’s death in a paparazzi-chased Paris car crash in 1997.
Diana is scheduled to open Sept. 20 in the U.K., but there is still no official U.S. release date.
