Meet Nina Davuluri. The 24-year-old native of Syracuse, N.Y. was crowned Miss America 2014 Sunday night.
Davuluri, who aspires to be a doctor, is the second Miss New York in a row to win the title. For her talent, she performed a Bollywood-inspired dance. She competed with a platform of “Celebrating Diversity through Cultural Competency.” She is also the first woman of Indian descent to be awarded the title of Miss America.
“I’m so happy this organization has embraced diversity,” Davuluri said in her first news conference as Miss America.
While the organization may have embraced diversity, the internet sure didn’t.

Even Fox News hosts got in on it.
The liberal Miss America judges won’t say this – but Miss Kansas lost because she actually represented American values. #missamerica

“I have to rise above that,” she also said, when asked about the online backlash. “I always viewed myself as first and foremost American.”
