Among the honorees at Variety‘s fifth annual Power of Women lunch was Amy Poehler, who gave a touching speech about her work with Worldwide Orphans. Onstage, Poehler began to cry (start at the 1:28 mark) as she spoke about the children she strives to help: “There are so many children in the world who have nothing,” she said. “Who are we to be in this room and living this life without helping them?”
Poehler has worked with Worldwide Orphans for the past several years, including going to Haiti on a mission with the charity organization. Additionally, Poehler and Jon Hamm recently co-hosted an Emmys after-party for losers only which raised money for Worldwide Orphans.
According to the AP, Charlize Theron was also emotional at the lunch, where she was honored for her work to end HIV/AIDS through the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach project. Other honorees included Kerry Washington, Nicole Kidman, Elizabeth Banks, Jennifer Hudson and Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal.
