This past weekend, Prince Harry popped down to Australia for an official visit. While that was happening, Buckingham Palace was being prepped to host its first-ever football match.
Today, Prince William, who is president of the Football Association, hosted a game between two of England’s oldest amateur football clubs – Civil Service FC and Polytechnic FC, which were both created in the late 1800s.
Though Queen Elizabeth was not in residence, she gave her grandson permission to muck about in her backyard.
“One warning, though,” William told the players. “If anyone breaks a window, you can answer to her.”
The event was also put on to honor the Football Association’s Grassroots Heroes. Before everyone went out to the palace grounds, William acknowledged the hard work that staff and volunteers have done so that everyone can enjoy the “beautiful game.”
