According to the man who’s raised Miley Cyrus, the “Wrecking Ball” singer is enjoying the single life quite a lot.

Country crooner Billy Ray Cyrus spoke to Entertainment Tonight Monday night, discussing his much talked-about daughter’s antics and her recent broken engagement with longtime beau, Liam Hemsworth.

“All I know for sure is I heard my daughter say today she’s the happiest she’s ever been in her life immediately following [the breakup]. That’s when I saw Miley being so happy,” the proud papa told the show. “Somewhere along the stress and strain of different things I didn’t see her smiling as often for a little while and, all of a sudden she’s like the sun and when she smiles it’s light … Everything happens for a reason and the main thing for me, as Miley’s daddy, is she’s happy.”

Billy Ray also reiterated those sentiments on his Twitter, tweeting after Miley’s TODAY performance:

Miley and Hemsworth parted ways in September after getting engaged in May 2012. The couple had been dating on-and-off since meeting in 2010 on the set of The Last Song.

According to Miley, her song “Drive” off her new album,Bangerz, deals with the heartache of leaving someone.

“I wrote it while I was working on Valentine’s Day— emotionally it was such a hard time,” she told Fashion magazine, hinting that the track may be about her former fiance. “It is about needing to leave someone but not really wanting to completely cut yourself off from the relationship. It’s a time when you want to leave but you can’t. It’s also about moving on.”
