Shortly after midnight, President Obama signed a Senate-brokered deal to end the government shutdown and avoid the U.S. defaulting on its debts. Furloughed government employees are expected to return to work Thursday morning and the government is back.
I won’t get into the partisan politics of arguing whether Sen. Ted Cruz was entirely or just mostly responsible for the shutdown, but the deal essentially amounts to a victory for Democrats. The deal re-opens the government, funding it until January 15. It also raises the debt limit until February 7 to avoid a U.S. default.
If your wedding was canceled or a vacation was ruined due to the shutdown, I’m truly sorry. But the government is back and it’s a party in the USA.
