Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard Had a Surprise Wedding

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, who’d vowed not to marry until gay marriage was legalized, were officially wedded at the Beverly Hills County Clerk’s Office yesterday.

TMZ reports the news like it was some sort of happy accident; the two didn’t really want to get married yesterday, but it just sort of happened:

According to eye witnesses, Kristen and Dax went to the clerk office just to get their marriage license — but when a court employee offered to marry them on the spot, they agreed … and conducted the ceremony in a nearby courtroom.

So Becky from the clerk’s office just offered to take her smoke break 10 minutes early and get them hitched? And they took her up on that offer? Hope it was worth the wait, ya crazy kids!

Bell and Shepard are already the parents to a daughter named Lincoln. Bell proposed to Shepard on Twitter after Proposition 8 was overturned and same-sex marriage was reauthorized in the state of California. In August of last year, Bell said: “I don’t feel appropriate taking advantage of a right that’s denied to my [gay and lesbian] friends. It’s just kind of rude to invite everyone to a party for a rite not everyone can hold.”
