No one really pays Sarah Palin any mind these days, but British reporter Martin Bashir felt compelled to take the former Alaskan governor to task after her recent speech comparing America’s national debt to slavery.
Bashir felt that Palin’s comparison cemented her place in American culture as its “resident dunce,” and called her a “world class idiot.”
While that may be true, Bashir went on to dissect Palin’s statement, citing slave owner Thomas Thistlewood‘s diary from the 1700s.
“In 1756, he records that a slave named Darby ‘catched eating kanes; had him well flogged and picked, then made Hector, another slave s**t in his mouth,'” Bashir told viewers.
“This become known as ‘Darby’s Dose’, a punishment invented by Thistlewood that spoke only of inhumanity.”
Bashir then suggested Palin be considered for a dose of the yucky stuff on account of her ignorance.
“She confirms if anyone truly qualified for a dose of discipline from Thomas Thistlewood, she would be the outstanding candidate,” Bashir concluded.
Was Bashir too harsh by suggesting such a punishment for Palin’s remarks?
