Students at the prestigious institution are pissed that Prince William is getting a “free pass,” claiming that he falls short of the university’s admission requirements.
According to the Daily Mail, graduates and undergraduates alike referenced William’s “mediocre” grades from Eton, where the Prince attended high school. The University’s newspaper, The Tab reports that William’s acceptance into the course is an “insult” to everyone studying at Cambridge.
“Admitting Prince William is an insult to every student, whatever their background, who got into Cambridge by getting the required A-level or degree results,” Cambridge graduate Melissa Berrill wrote in The Guardian.
“It’s an insult to every student whose A-levels and degree are the same or better than his, and who didn’t get a free pass to Cambridge in spite of them.
And it’s an insult to everyone in the country who needs skills or training, and hasn’t had a university course personally designed for them.”
This, however, is not the overall sentiment. Freshman Charlotte Ivers thinks William’s presence at Cambridge will drum up a lot of good publicity.
“Has Oxford educated the next two monarchs of our great nation?” Ivers asked. “Hell no.”
William’s father, Prince Charles graduated from Cambridge with a degree in Archaeology and Anthropology in 1970.
