As fans around the world prepare to gather in front of their TVs (either at home or their favorite bar/pub), we’re pausing to pay tribute to one of the sport’s greatest athletes.
Unlike his endless shirtless moments, David Beckham’s World Cup appearances were not very hot. Beckham, who played for England on the world stage three times, failed to advance with his country to the quarterfinals in 1998 and to the semifinals in 2002 and 2006.
The superstar, now 39, did walk away as the first English player to score at three World Cups. And in 2004, the midfielder was included on the FIFA 100 list of the world’s greatest living football soccer players.
Through the good, bad and ugly times, Beckham has kept one thing in check — his physique. Celebrate Beckham’s physique with our shirtless gallery of the soccer star, on and off the field, above.
England will face Italy at the FIFA World Cup this Saturday.
